The Sanford Performing Arts Center kicks off the first of its 12-show Partners Bank Spotlight Series lineup of the season at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2021 with the national touring production of the feel-good musical Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story. Tickets are on sale now.
The show tells the true story of Buddy’s meteoric rise to fame, from the moment in 1957 when "That’ll Be the Day" hit the airwaves until his tragic death less than two years later on “the day the music died.” In 18 short months, the Texas-born boy revolutionized the face of contemporary music, influencing everyone from The Beatles to Bruce Springsteen.
The show features over 20 of Buddy Holly’s greatest golden rock ‘n’ roll hits, including "That’ll Be the Day," "Peggy Sue," "Everyday," "Oh Boy," "Maybe Baby," "Not Fade Away," "It’s So Easy," plus Ritchie Valens’ "La Bamba" and The Big Bopper’s "Chantilly Lace."
“When we opened the show we never imagined that his music and story would still be rocking stages and entertaining audiences around the world week in and week out over 25 years later,” said Buddy’s widow, Maria Elena Holly. “I believe this is a testament to a great show and the enduring appeal of Buddy Holly and what he represents: a youthful energy, huge talent, and creativity, combined with a determination to make a lasting impression in this world.”
Tickets range from $48 to $64. The Partners Bank Spotlight Series also includes "Tapestry: The Carole King Showbook" next up on Saturday, November 20, 2021.
